Creating a new fintech category

In our efforts to define the unique currency management platform that Okoora had built from the ground up to serve businesses of all kinds, we struggled to put our finger on the touchstone that would unite the problem the company solves with its intended solution.

Automated Business Currency Management™ (ABCM), the chosen category name, represents a new paradigm for simplifying how enterprises, conducting business transactions in multiple currencies – plan, manage, and execute their decisions.

  • Simultaneously unique, yet familiar: The ABCM category immediately draws comparisons to the indispensable, enterprise-grade software platforms that have been widely adopted in the business world: ABCM is to currency management as ERP is to integrating business systems, and CRM is to managing the customer journey.
  • Promises simplicity: Currency management – as easy as ABC

The company required that I create a name that is easy to pronounce virtually anywhere, arouses curiosity to engage with the brand, and reflects its core promise and mission.

The result: Okoora™

  • A phonetic spelling of the French au courant: the state of being current, up-to-date, or in-the-know about the latest trends on a particular subject
  • Okoora keeps businesses current (or au courant) with the state of the currencies they manage
  • It sounds cool, arouses curiosity, and has a memorable spelling and visual appeal

Currency Simplified.

In a nutshell, this is the essence of the brand strategy I developed together with the Okoora team. It also serves as the company tagline:

  • Reflects Okoora’s primary objective as a disruptive fintech: to simplify currency management
  • Encapsulates the goal of anyone who uses the platform to manage their cross-border, multi-currency transactions
